It doesn’t take many brain cells to figure out that we’re all about dancing; getting people on their feet and shaking their thangs is the most central element of everything we do and is the fuel for our creative process and live shows. Personally, I’ve always been very passionate and inspired by our electronic counterparts in the dance music world and for this reason its super exciting to be announcing the release of The Woohoo Revue – Remixed Vol.1 EP – a collection of remixes of music from Moreland’s Ball created by a collection of insanely talented DJs from as far reaching realms as the UK, Germany and the United States. Our dear friend Max Mortimer (Mortisville) compiled the remixes and made a spiffy video showing off some of the fun found on the release. Check it out… Its like our music was intercepted by intergalactic boogie aliens, they put it through a future-funk machine and then sent it back to our dance floors.
There are few places in the world where the dance floors are as wild, costumes are as crazy and punters are as riled up as Rainbow Serpent festival, and this year was a truly amazing Australia Day long weekend. Performing on the Playground stage on Friday night amongst some of our favourite bands was spectacular, and we’d like to thank everyone who was there with us and made it such a special gig! We also took the opportunity to put our costuming skills to the test once and for all by trying to capture the spirit of the festival in our outfits, and modesty aside, we think we did a good job. See if you agree… It was also really special to be a part of Jhana’s very first Rainbow Serpent experience. For those of you who don’t know Jhana Allan, she’s the most recent recruit to the band, having fiddled with us since October 2013. Jhana hails from Armidale, NSW and has grown up playing folk music from Turkish, Macedonian and gypsy traditions. She has brought a huge amount of energy to both our live show and our creative process so far, and we’re looking forward to showing her off at a venue near you very soon! Bye for now Woohooligans.

The coming of a New Year is a bit of a drag. It means trying to remember which of your acquaintances you’ve already given New Yearly wishes to, feeling obliged to make profound life-changing resolutions and the inevitable disappointment which results from realising that although the year has changed, you haven’t transformed into the motivated and disciplined individual you had hoped. On the other hand, it is a great excuse to throw a party. And party we did, in the lush and lusty setting of Bordello Noir, a converted video store which was host to a definitive moment of the cosmos – DOUBLE DRUMMING WOOHOO MADNESS!!! We invited co-founding member Ben Charnley to play with us while he was briefly home from New York, and the result was satisfyingly epic. Check it out. Speaking of parties (we usually are) this week sees the Woohoo-mobile depart for Rainbow Serpent festival, where we’ll be playing the Playground stage on Friday at 6.30pm, amidst a bunch of cranking bands including Flap!, Madre Monte, Rapskallion and 8 Foot Felix. We’ll be hanging around and soaking up the rest of the festival so make sure you say hi if you see us around! After Rainbow we’ll be returning home refreshed and rejuvenated to get stuck into what could be our busiest year to date. We’re working on a lot of new material to get you dancing in all new weird and wacky ways, we’re planning shows across the country and perhaps even further… but we’ll elaborate on that terrible attempt at mystique some other time. For now, I’m off to quit smoking and lose 20kgs. Jarrod (your friendly neighbourhood sax-wielding leopard-man).

THE WOOHOO REVUE Moreland’s Ball Independently Released There is a magical and mythical place called Bourbon and Branch hidden behind a discreet door in a seedy, run-down part of San Francisco. The entrance is obscure and deliberately hard-to-find while entry to this plush hedonistic lair requires a secret password. When the thirsty reveler enters this elusive and enigmatic place they feel as if they are stepping into a different dimension of reality. Suddenly the drab ordinariness of the outside world is replaced with the heady sensation of having slipped into some decadent Prohibition-era speakeasy. Listening to The Woohoo Revue has a similarly transporting effect. There is nothing mundane, conservative or everyday about this wildly attired and sonically arresting swinging sextet. Their buoyant and jazzy gypsy-infused instrumental tunes would fit perfectly in the darkly romantic atmosphere of a bar like Bourbon and Branch as both bar and band share a refreshingly bohemian edginess. There is something decidedly lusty and nocturnal about this band’s music that seems sure to unleash the sweetest and most reckless passions. There is also something very ‘Johnny Depp’ about The Woohoo Revue: the glint in the eye; the swashbuckling irreverence; the wicked yet knowing smile; the zesty circus-tent glamour; and that rare and precious ability to be both irrevocably left-field and fabulously popular at the same time. Exploding with the joyous sounds of horns, strings and drums this vital spark of an eleven-track album will transform even the humblest lounge room into a jiving ballroom, a sawdust-encrusted big top or, if you are very lucky, a secret, hidden place positively crackling with mystery and celebration.

Best Track: The Goose, The Moose & The Boose

If You Like These, You’ll Like This: So Many Nights THE CAT EMPIRE

In A Word: Magical

GRAHAM BLACKLEY

The Woohoo Revue’s national tour run of venue shows starts tomorrow in the Gold Coast! The band have warmed up their show at a run of recent and well received festival shows including Port Fairy, Illawarra Folk, Cabargo Folk, The National and WA’s Fairbridge festival. Be sure to check out the bands tour dates and pre book to avoid disappointment as some of the show capacity numbers are quite small. http://www.thewoohoorevue.com.au/tour-dates/

We are proud to announce that thewoohoorevue.com.au is finally up and running. The guys at 3sidedsquare in Westgarth have been diligently developing this most beautiful website over the past month or so. It has been a epic undertaking for the designers Lee and Locky and although we still have some fine tuning to do we are all really happy with the final result. Not only is it very beautiful it has everything you would come to expect from a great band website. Colourful images, a shop for the merch, info about the tour, you can listen the music and much more. If you like what you see and are looking for some web design why not touch base with the guys at 3 sided square. They are very professional, dedicated and good communicators. Oh and they designed our wax seal logo design too! Please explore and enjoy our website, if you have any comments about the site please leave us a comment!
